This project is a celebration of black queer relationships, an exhibition of genderless fashion, and a retrospective of the ongoing pandemic. Quarantined for months, Americans developed a hyper-focus on the home, as both a living space and a pivotal sphere of life. This spotlight inspired us to update the depiction of the quintessential American household with a far more black and queer ideal than has ever been given a platform before.
In representing America, we took inspiration from the classic advertising style of the 1950s and 1960s, blending fashion and art aesthetics of old with the activities and sartorial sensibilities of today. Ultimately, this project intends to sell us on the grim reality of carrying on in a pandemic — a reality we may have to buy into whether we’re inclined to or not.
